A Flick Rate of 20 degrees per second means the same transition takes twice as long.

A rider who is uncertain about the grip, the corner radius, or their own position will hesitate at the turn-in point. They may reach the same lean angle eventually but they get there slowly, testing the water rather than committing to it.

This hesitation almost always goes unnoticed by feel alone. The rider thinks they are cornering well because they end up at a reasonable lean angle. The data tells a different story. A very high Flick Rate combined with a low smoothness score can indicate abrupt, jerky turn-in rather than decisive committed lean. The goal is not maximum Flick Rate at any cost. It is a Flick Rate that reflects confident, deliberate commitment to the lean with a single clean steering input rather than a violent flick followed by corrections. The smoothness score catches the difference.

Flick Rate and Entry Bite

Entry Bite measures the G-load carried into the initial lean phase. A rider with a high Flick Rate and a meaningful Entry Bite score is doing something close to trail braking correctly, committing to the lean quickly while still managing some braking force through the turn-in. That combination is the technical signature of a skilled corner entry. Watching both metrics develop together over time shows real technique progression in a way that feel alone cannot document.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR FLICK RATE

On your weak side specifically

The most common use for Flick Rate data is identifying and closing the gap between your strong and weak side turn-in speed. If your right side Flick Rate is significantly lower than your left, the technical focus is on the initiation of the turn-in movement on right-hand corners rather than on lean angle depth.

The practical approach is to make the turn-in a deliberate, single movement rather than a gradual easing into the lean. Look through the corner early. At your turn-in point, weight the outside peg, push the inside bar, and commit to the lean in one motion rather than testing slowly. The grip will be there. Trust is the limiting factor, not the tire.
